Best Buds

My best friend Melissa and her family came to Savannah from Minnesota for a few weeks. While they were in town, we tried to get together as much as possible. They were also going to come visit us in Jacksonville, but it just so happen that my sister went into labor that same day. But we managed to get the kids together a few times.

New Years

For New Years Eve, we went to our friends Dan and Heather's house to celebrate. We brought in 2009 with good food and great friends.

Travis' two front teeth

Travis lost both of his front teeth within a week. The first one came out when the boys were wrestling and Landon punched Travis in the mouth. (This makes the second tooth that has come out with help from Landon. The very first tooth that Travis lost came out on the trampoline when Landon jump kicked Travis in the mouth.) His second front tooth was barely hanging on. He wanted it out so he could get more money. We were in Savannah and Derreck offered him $20 to let my mom yank it out with a string. This sounded like a good deal to Travis. He told his Nana that she could pull it out if she matched what the tooth fairy gave him. After all the negotiations were settled, she jerked out his tooth with a piece of thread. So, after $20 that Derreck gave him, the $20 that the tooth fairy gave him, and the $20 that his Nana matched, he made out with $60!

Field trip to the zoo

We went with Travis on his field trip to the zoo. He took his camera, so except for the first and last picture, they are all taken by him.

Avery Taylor Mason

We're tickles pink and happy to say that Avery Taylor Mason arrived today. January 12, 2009, 3:31 pm, 7 lbs. 8 oz., 19 1/2 in. Congratulations to Amber and Derreck.

Christmas 2008

This Christmas was the first time that we did not have Santa come to our house. We wanted to stay in Savannah Christmas Eve so that we would have more time to spend with our family on Christmas day. But we ultimately left the decision up to the boys. When we asked Travis if it was alright that Santa came to Savannah instead of Jacksonville, he said "Yeah that's fine, cause Santa knows when you are sleeping, so he has to know where you are sleeping...right?" We stayed at my Nena and Peepaw's house on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning we went from my grandparent's house to Travis' parents house to my parents house, back to Travis' parents house, then back to my grandparents house. It was a long day.

As a gift to my grandparents, my parents went into the woods and cut down a pine tree to put in their house. This was how my dad remembered their Christmas trees growing up. My Peepaw used to search for the perfect tree in the woods, cut it down and bring it home to decorate. He would drill holes and fill in the bare spots with more branches, paint it silver and put it on a home-made tree stand. My dad replicated one of these old trees, we painted the needles silver and decorated it with old timey lights decorations. My Nena and Peepaw were so surprised to see this. It brought back wonderful memories to them from "the old days".
